Today's post is dedicated to the Interstate 160. The past two days have given me a new perspective on the western settlers who traversed this countryside either by wagon, horse, or on foot. Today started much like yesterday finished long, hilly, up and down, But then I ended up in the alpine region. So lots of up and finally some down. The 160 did go through many towns today, which made the trip longer. Every time you come near and then into town you go from 65 mph to 25 mph. Another difference between Kansas 160 and Colorado 160 is Kansas has more cows than you can count and Colorado has horses.

Raton Mesa is a flat top rocked preserved by a thick lava cap, which has resisted weathering and erosion. It's located a few miles east of Trinidad on the southern Colorado front range. Designated in 1967, the 4,183 acre natural landmark is situated on both state owned and private land.

In Kansas and Colorado they call these flowers, sunflowers. They are not sunflowers

This morning I got up so early because I thought it was 9:30, but it was 8:30 because we switched to Mountain Time from Central Time when we crossed into Colorado yesterday. I went to see more of the city of Trinidad. It's population is less than 10,000. It's little old town is really cute. While I was driving around I found a nice dog park with a bunch of locals who called each other and their dogs by name. They were very welcoming. The boys had a great game of chase with the others.

I was on the road by 11:30. It's just a four hour drive to Durango, but as I've explained already, it took more than 5 hours. I've been calling the two campsites in Durango for two day - no answer - until today. No vacancy, so I had to get a hotel room. I actually prefer to be in my camper, especially when I'm alone. All my stuff is there at my fingertips. The dogs are more comfortable in their home also. So here I am at another Comfort Inn. They are clean and dog friendly. The drag is that I have to make three trips to the car and trailer - clothes, toiletries, empty fridge, dog bowls, etc...
